The vision for this master bathroom was to have a light and airy space with marble, touches of contrasting matte black, and wood tones to add warmth and balance to the overall space. After meeting with my clients, it was very clear the direction they wanted this bathroom to go. They loved the minimal and modern design with clean lines, yet they wanted to add some traditional touches to keep it feeling warm and timeless.
Before we start, let’s take a look at some of the before pictures…

My clients made it clear from the start that the bathtub was never used and so we agreed to remove the tub in order to create an oversized shower. We also made the window larger to let in more natural light and moved it higher to allow for more privacy. A major goal was to get rid of the clutter to keep it simple and tidy at all times.
We decided to move the location of the toilet, in order to give them a large vanity with an attached linen closet and double sinks. To streamline the overall modern design, we chose to go with a floating toilet. It fits in perfectly with the feel of the space and is super easy to clean, which is a bonus. We were set on white oak for the cabinetry and scoured the surrounding areas to find the right shade! This custom shaker style vanity is timeless and nothing short of stunning! We used matte black hardware and I love the contrast against the white oak. The black mirrors with the rounded edges helped to soften the space and added visual interest.

We chose a simple quartz countertop with minimal gray veining and it flowed perfectly with the style we were trying to achieve. We really elevated this bathroom by building the countertop up to almost five inches high. That is definitely one of the many stand out features in this bathroom.

Moving on to the shower, we used a frameless shower panel and door. We paired it with subtle dolomite marble tile, but placed it in a herringbone pattern to elevate the space. The result is absolutely gorgeous! We used a marble hexagon mosaic for the niche, as well as the shower floor. I love that we used three different tiles, but they all play off of one another perfectly and add further visual interest. Another showstopper in this bathroom is the floating quartz bench! That bench is so strong that we literally jumped on it to test it and it didn’t budge! We decided to mix the matte black hardware with aged brass shower hardware and lighting. These two metal finishes made for a winning combination in this space.

Since all of the other elements in the space were pretty neutral, the marble mosaic tile was just what the bathroom needed to add another layer of depth and dimension and tie everything together. The walls were painted White Dove by Benjamin Moore, which is a classic white that I often use.

My clients and I are thrilled with the way this bathroom came together. It’s honestly one of my favorites and will definitely stand the test of time. Hoping this lovely couple will enjoy their new sanctuary for many years to come!

Such a beautiful bathroom! Considering a countertop like this… did you build the vanity any shorter to account for the thick countertop? Or is the vanity a normal height??
Hello Lyndsey,
