Project Overview
This family room was part of a full new build where the client and I were closely aligned from the start on a modern organic vision. With a bright, open layout and strong architectural elements already in place, the goal was to layer in warmth, texture, and livability while maintaining a refined, timeless feel that would grow with the family.
Design Approach
Since this was a new build, the design direction was established early and carried through with intention and restraint. A neutral performance-fabric sectional anchors the seating arrangement, offering durability without sacrificing softness, while light oak nesting coffee tables introduce warmth and visual balance.
Architectural detailing played a key role in unifying the space. A coffered ceiling adds depth and subtle formality overhead, while a board-and-batten fireplace surround was designed to visually connect the family room with adjacent spaces, reinforcing cohesion throughout the main living area.
Layered textures complete the room: an ivory and soft gray vintage-inspired area rug grounds the seating, barrel-back maple leather accent chairs soften the clean-lined furnishings, and ivory woven shades filter natural light while maintaining privacy and warmth. Brass accents, seen in lighting, tabletop details, and fireplace accessories, add a quiet sense of contrast and refinement, complemented by curated black accents that echo the home’s window frames.
