Project Overview
The Woodcreek family room was transformed from a dark, dated space into a bright, Hamptons-inspired gathering room designed to accommodate both everyday family life and entertaining. The goal was to introduce height, light, and architectural interest while creating a warm, layered space that feels timeless and livable.
Design Approach
We began by removing the existing heavy, double-sided fireplace, which visually weighed down both the family room and kitchen. In its place, we designed a full-height stone fireplace extending to the home’s 18-foot ceiling, instantly creating a lighter, more refined focal point.
To balance scale and functionality, we designed a custom built-in with the television articulating in the middle. Open floating wood shelves and white cabinetry below provide storage for technology while keeping the composition visually open and uncluttered. The floating shelves intentionally echo the warmth and tone of the barnwood beam mantel, creating cohesion across the elevation.
Furniture selections were intentionally neutral at the foundation, layered with oversized slate blue-gray accent chairs, textured pillows in soft creams and taupe, and additional cube seating for flexibility. A wood and concrete coffee table anchors the space, while a large area rug in subtle gray and cream tones grounds the seating arrangement.
To emphasize the home’s height and wall of windows, we installed full-length drapery panels that draw the eye upward and soften the architecture. A simple, oversized chandelier adds presence without competing with the fireplace, allowing the room to feel elevated yet relaxed.
