Project Overview
This family room renovation focused on transforming an outdated, closed-off space into a warm, modern organic gathering area designed for everyday living. The homeowners wanted a room that felt elevated yet family-friendly – one that could support young children now while remaining timeless for years to come.
Design Approach
We began by removing the existing fireplace and surrounding wainscoting to create a cleaner architectural foundation. A new floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace was introduced as the focal point, anchored by a barn wood mantel beam to add warmth and texture.
Custom built-ins were thoughtfully designed on either side of the fireplace, offering a balance of curated display and concealed storage for everyday items. To create continuity throughout the main floor, we echoed the brass library lighting from the adjacent dining room within the family room.
Layered furnishings and finishes were selected to enhance comfort and durability, including a new carpet with an area rug layered on top, performance fabric sofas, and leather accent chairs. Neutral drapery, refined styling, and thoughtfully chosen accessories complete a space that feels inviting, cohesive, and intentionally designed for family life.
