Project Overview
The Morningside Remodel began as an outdated dining room with limited function and an awkward wall indentation that disrupted the space. The homeowners wanted to transform the room into a flexible environment that could support daily life, functioning primarily as a home office and homework space, while still accommodating dining and gathering when needed.
The goal was to create a calm, multipurpose room that felt intentional, organized, and warm, without sacrificing beauty or flexibility.
Design Approach
We reimagined the existing wall indentation as an opportunity rather than a limitation, designing a custom built-in that spans wall to wall and extends all the way to the ceiling. The recessed area became the client’s dedicated workstation, creating a natural focal point while maximizing functionality.
Lower cabinetry provides generous concealed storage for games, puzzles, art supplies, and everyday clutter, allowing the room to adapt easily to different uses throughout the day. The space was designed in a palette of soft off-whites and light wood tones to keep it feeling open, calm, and modern.
Brass library lighting adds warmth and ambiance in the evenings, while thoughtful styling and curated decor keep the space feeling layered without becoming cluttered. Artwork at the workstation introduces contrast and color, adding personality without overwhelming the design.
A patterned area rug with subtle charcoal tones grounds the room and ties together the mixed functions, helping the space feel cohesive whether it’s being used for work, homework, crafts, or gathering.
