Project Overview
This basement bathroom was originally unfinished and lacked warmth, storage, and personality, despite being a space the kids used frequently. The goal was to create a bathroom that felt intentional and elevated, while still being durable, functional, and inviting for everyday use.
Design Approach
To give the space character without overwhelming it, we focused on thoughtful contrast and layered texture. A shiplap accent wall painted in Benjamin Moore Hale Navy grounds the room and adds depth, while warm white oak elements soften the darker tones and bring balance.
The vanity became a focal point, combining a white oak base with a marble countertop featuring soft gray veining. Vintage-inspired details, such as a pill-shaped mirror and brass sconces, introduce charm and a sense of timelessness, while botanical artwork, greenery, and rattan accents keep the space feeling fresh and approachable.
In the shower, classic materials were elevated through careful selection and restraint. White subway tiles with subtle movement line the walls, paired with a brass shower system and coordinating brass accessories. To help the room feel more open and spacious, we opted for a streamlined glass panel rather than a full enclosure, allowing light to flow freely throughout the bathroom. Marble basketweave tile was used on the shower floor and repeated in the niche for cohesion, while a teak bench adds warmth and function.
